The Legacy Performance Games were created as a legacy of the Kamloops 2011 Western Canada Summer Games, which Kamloops hosted in August 2011.
The Legacy Performance Games are not intended to replace existing multi-sport games opportunities. Instead, they aim to offer a games experience to athletes that may haved missed out on high-level competitions such as the BC Games or the Canada Games because of age cutoffs or delayed sport entry.
Last July, wheelchair rugby was a test sport for next year's Kamloops Legacy Games. Four developmental wheelchair rugby teams participanted in the event. The Edmonton Steel Wheels won gold, the Seattle Slam won silver and the BC Island Oaks won bronze!
This year, both wheelchair tennis and wheelchair rugby will participate in the 2014 Legacy Performance Games from July 3 - 6, 2014.
