Vancouver, BC (November 4, 2019) - Canada has a new National Wheelchair Tennis Champion.
Anmore's Thomas Venos defeated Quebec's Jean-Paul Melo to claim the Men's Singles title at the 2019 Birmingham National Wheelchair Tennis Championships at IGA Stadium in Montreal.
The 20-year-old was dominant, not dropping a set and going a perfect 8-0 to claim both the Singles title and the Doubles crown (with Team BC teammate Barry Henderson).
Venos' impressive performance at Nationals follows a fantastic summer in which he won his first ITF Singles title and represented Canada at the Parapan Am Games in Lima, Peru.
Mission's Barry Henderson and Vancouver's Kirsten Sharp also posted strong results in Montreal. In addition to his Doubles' title, Henderson finished 3rd in Singles, while Sharp took 3rd place in both Women's Singles and Doubles.
