Two Local Athletes Win All Star Awards At the 2014 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships

BC Wheelchair Sports Association congratulates Vancouverites Ian Chan (2.5) and Team Canada Captain Trevor Hirschfield (1.0) on their appointment to the All Star Team for the 2014 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships last Sunday night.

Both Chan and Hirschfield were part of a dominant starting lineup that defeated Team USA in a nail-biting overtime upset.

“We’re so proud of our local guys,” exclaimed BCWSA Executive Director Gail Hamamoto. “You can’t make mistakes in this game, and our guys really showed their experience and patience at an elite level.”

Team Canada earned a silver in the tournament, recording their only loss in the entire tournament to Team Australia. As a result of Canada’s play during the tournament, Canada’s International Wheelchair Rugby Federation ranking has increased; they’re now ranked as 2nd in the world.
