We’re only two weeks away from the 2016 Canada Cup International Wheelchair Rugby Tournament. Team Canada officially launched their lineup on Monday at the Richmond Olympic Oval, and we couldn’t be more excited to watch the top club in the world perform.
Seven clubs will be attending this year, six of whom will be competing at 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. Winning is everything, as each club will be using the tournament as a litmus test for their Rio preparations.
In addition to the Canada/USA rivalry, we have other great matchups to take notice of. Team Japan (#3) was ranked 5th when we hosted the Canada Cup in 2014; they’ve steadily improved the club and boasted a 1st place mark at the 2015 Asia-Oceania Championships in their home country. They’ll have to defend this ranking from powerhouses like Australia (#4) and Great Britain (#5). Great Britain has also beaten several top teams this year.
Behind the scenes, we’re planning to put on a great show. Our media partner viaSport will host a professional webcast with multiple camera angles. We’re putting together a silent auction you’ll be talking about all tournament long, and, of course, we’ll be proudly sponsored by Postmark Brewing. Do you have your tickets yet? Grab them online today @ Eventbrite or at the door.
See you all soon!
