July 12, 2002 - Three of British Columbia's top wheelchair athletes will be representing Canada in the IPC World Athletics Championships in Lille-Villeneuve d'Ascq, France from July 20th to 28th.
Kelly Smith (Vancouver) - Member of the 2000 Paralympic Team in Sydney, Australia; Canadian Record holder in the 10,000m.
Karen March (Mill Bay) - Top T52 Female in the WC Race Series, 7th overall; Top T52 Female in the Western Canada Race Series.
David Hanson (Maple Ridge) - Member Roosevelt Cup Team 2001, representing Canada; Top T52 Male in the WC Race Series, 6th overall; Top T52 Male in the Western Canada Race Series.
Kelly Smith will compete in the 800, 1500m, 5000m, and the Marathon; Karen March in the 100m and the 400m; and Dave Hanson in the Marathon
The IPC World Athletics Championships bring together the very best of the world's athletes with a disability for an intense 9-day competition. Events include track and road racing, high jump, long jump, shotput, javelin and discus.
