May 15, 2002 - The Victoria Track and Field Club in partnership with BC Wheelchair Sports is proud to host the first ever IPC Canadian Trials in the sport of Athletics to include four disabled sport groups. Athletes in attendance are members of one of the following sport associations for athletes with a disability Wheelchair Sports, Cerebral Palsy Sports (now known as Sportability), Blind Sports and Amputee Sports.
This marks the first time ever that these four disabled athletics groups will be represented at the same Championship Meet in Canada. In addition, it will be the first time that a wheelchair championship event will be held outside of Quebec or Ontario.
The athletes attending this track and field meet are among the best, both in Canada and in the World in their individual events. They will be competing for positions on the Canadian Team which will represent our country at the IPC World Championships to be held in Lille-Villeneuve d'Ascq, France from July 20th to 28th, 2002.
The IPC Canadian Trials will take place at Centennial Stadium at the University of Victoria this weekend, May 17th to 19th.
