As a provincial sport organization, BC Wheelchair Sports will endeavour to provide funding to member sports in the following areas (in order of priority):
- 100% of expenses related to Registration and Airfare for the 'BC Team' travel to the National Championships.
Criteria for qualification to the team must be agreed upon by the Sport Management Committee and the BCWSA Staff person on a yearly basis and may be dependent on the amount of funding available in a given year. Criteria must be made known to the sport members in a timely manner, and the funds be made available prior to the Championships. *Once published, this area of funding must be guaranteed.
Note: Where airfare is not part of the expenses incurred by a team travelling to championships, consideration will be given to providing assistance with accommodation expenses.
- Hosting of Provincial Championships
A hosting grant will be provided to the organizing committee. The grant amount will be determined based on the amount of funding available in a given year, and will be made known upon establishing the annual budget and not less than 6 months prior to the event.
- Sport Development Initiatives
Depending on the needs of the sport, sport development initiatives agreed upon by the Sport Management Committee and the BCWSA Staff person may be funded by BC Wheelchair Sports. The level of funding may vary from project to project and year to year.
- Other Initiatives
In the case that additional funds are available, other initiatives may be considered for funding. These could be driven by either BC Wheelchair Sports, or be applied for by the Sport Management Committee. The funding of these initiatives would be entirely dependent upon the availability of funds.
Additionally, BC Wheelchair Sports will administer funding or funded programs provided by the following outside agencies:
- TEAM BC Programs - BC Sport and Recreation Branch, Provincial Government
- Athlete Assistance Program - BC Sport and Recreation Branch, Provincial Government
BC Wheelchair Sports is committed to the following budget procedures:
- Staff (Director of Sport) will meet with each Sport Management Committee to establish an annual budget in January. The budget will be presented to the Board of Directors for approval or revision.
- Upon Board approval, a summary of each sport budget will be forwarded to the Sport Management Committee so that they are aware of the funding available for programs/teams. The summary will be accompanied by the following:
1.0 Criteria for qualification to teams receiving funding to National Championships.
2.0 Rationale for funding decisions and method for providing input.
* It is the responsibility of the Sport Management Committee to communicate this information to its members.
- All Selection Criteria for BC Teams and the Athlete Assistance Program will be published in the Newswheel along with a summary of available funding as soon as it has been established and not less than 3 months prior to the event. In the case that this is not possible (a Newswheel will not be published in time) notification must be provided to the athletes in another manner.
- If at any point during the year, modifications to the budget must be made, staff will meet with the Sport Management Committee to decide how best to modify the budget.
