General Information

There are two types of wheelchair athletics offered by BC Wheelchair Sports Association: Wheelchair racing and seated throws. Athletics is a great sport for all disabilities, including: paraplegic and quadriplegic spinal cord injuries, amputees, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, and orthopedic disabilities. Men, women and juniors are welcome.

Athletes compete in different classes depending on their level of disability, which allows everyone to compete in a fair manner. People with spinal cord injuries, amputations, cerebral palsy and other disabilities are welcome. The most popular track events are road races (5K to Marathon) and track (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m). The most popular field events are javelin, discus and shotput.

Fun Fact: BC Wheelchair Sports started a throws program just a few years ago and it's now booming! In fact, three of our athletes set national records this year!
