BC athletes put together impressive performances at the 2023 Bell Canadian Track and Field Championships in Langley!
Tiana Hesmert, Paulo Guerrero and Cody Fournie all brought home gold medals, and Daryl Yuen put up personal bests in the Shot Put and Discus in his return to Nationals.
On The Track
Fresh off his Para Athletics World Championships debut in Paris this July, rugby athlete turned racer Cody Fournie (Victoria) picked up his first T51 national title in the 100m to open up a promising racing career.
Paulo Guerrero (North Vancouver) continues to improve and was rewarded for his hard work with gold in the T53 100m with a time of 19.62. Guerrero also added silver medals in the 200m, 400m and 800m races posting a personal best of 1:10.64
Tiana Hesmert (Richmond) also impressed and won her first National medal with a gold in the Women’s T52 200m race.
In The Throwing Circle
Tiana Hesmert added another medal to her collection in the Women’s Seated Shot Put. She finished 3rd with a best throw of 3.74 meters and a RAZA score of 528.
Additionally, Daryl Yuen (Vancouver) marked his return to the national scene with a couple PBs in F55 throwing events. Yuen had a personal best in discus with a 17.28 throw and added another PB in Shot Put with a 5.42m throw.
The BC Athletics Team and our racing and throws programs are now on a short break until indoor season resumes in the fall. We’re always looking for more people to get involved in Athletics and our programs, so if you’re an athlete with a disability who wants to learn more and get into Wheelchair Racing and/or Seated throws, contact Senior Program Coordinator Jessica Ferguson at firstname.lastname@example.org today!
