• An Update on the 2021 Vancouver Invitational Wheelchair Rugby Tournament

  • massive-dev  |  December 11, 2020

Each year BC Wheelchair Sports Association proudly hosts the Vancouver Invitational Wheelchair Rugby Tournament, which is one of the most exciting and long-running tournaments on the West Coast. In 2021, the event is scheduled to take place from March 12-14, 2021 at the Richmond Olympic Oval. However, in light of COVID-19 pandemic and the current Public Health Orders in place in British Columbia, BC Wheelchair Sports is implementing contingency plans to safeguard the health and well-being of all athletes, participants, officials and volunteers.

>We are now working on ‘scenario-planning’ to look at different possibilities in what is an ever-changing situation. We have developed the following scenarios to be taken into consideration for the 2021 Vancouver Invitational Wheelchair Rugby Tournament:

Plan A: The event will go as planned.

Plan B: Only teams from Canada will be invited (no international participation).

Plan C: Only teams from Western Canada will be invited.

Plan D: Only BC teams will be invited.

Plan E: The event will be canceled.

We are hopeful that shortly we will receive further updates from viaSport and the government and we plan to provide you with further information on the scenarios we might have to consider by January 2021.

Thank you to all of the athletes, teams, officials, and volunteers for their patience and understanding as we navigate this challenging time.
