To our community and membership,
We wanted to provide you with an update on BC Wheelchair Sports Programming and the status of our Return to Sport plans for each of our sports. At the present time BCWSA is monitoring the information provided by public health officials and in regular contact with viaSport, and Sport BC as well as National Sport Organisations (NSOs) and Provincial Sport Organisations (PSOs).
The BC Provincial Health Officer/Ministry of Health will announce when Phase 1 of a return to sport is allowed. Return to Sport Guidelines for Phase 1 will be provided to the Provincial Sport Organizations by viaSport, after review by Public Health Officials and WorkSafe BC. Based on these general guidelines, BCWSA will then finalize sport-specific guidelines that will be communicated to our members and partners for implementation. When Phase 1 is implemented and monitored for effectiveness, viaSport and subsequently BCWSA will move to provide guidelines for Phases 2 and 3.
Throughout this process, the health and safety of our members and community remains our first priority and is at the core of our strategy and decision making. We are also aiming to align with the National Return to Sport policies that are in development by our NSOs.
BCWSA will share Phase 1 of our Return to Sport plan to our members, clubs and partners once it has been developed and approved by the BCWSA Board of Directors, and we will publish it on our website, in our newsletter and across all of our social media channels.
At present time, all of our in-person BCWSA programming remains suspended including practices, training camps, tournaments and social events. We will provide another programming update on May 30.
