Notice of BCWSA 2018 AGM

BC Wheelchair Sports’ 2018 Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, September 27th, 2018 at the BCWSA office located at 780 SW Marine Drive, Vancouver.
Please be advised that the following five (5) Special Resolutions will be put forward at the 2018 AGM
1.Removal of Bylaw Article XIII
BE IT RESOLVED THAT: Article XIII of the Bylaws be removed
2. Membership Catergories, Article II
BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The category of ‘Club Membership’ be added to the Bylaws as follows:
Club Member – A sport club that delivers programs and/or services in wheelchair tennis,wheelchair athletics or wheelchair rugby in BC, and has agreed to abide by and adhere to the Society’s By-laws, policies, procedures, and rules.
3. Voting at Meetings of Members, Article III
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The following section under Article III of the Bylaws,
3.18 Voting Rights – Members will have the following voting rights at all meetings of the Members:
a) Adult Members have one vote each
b) Junior Members do not have a vote
c) Coach Members have one vote each
d) Official Members have one vote each
e) Supporter Members have one vote each
f) Affiliate Members do not have a vote
g) Honorary Members do not have a vote
h) Life Members have one vote each
Be amended to add Club Members as follows:
3.18 Voting Rights – Members will have the following voting rights at all meetings of the
Members:
i) Adult Members have one vote each
j) Junior Members do not have a vote
k) Coach Members have one vote each
l) Official Members have one vote each
m) Supporter Members have one vote each
n) Affiliate Members do not have a vote

p) Life Members have one vote each
q) Club Members have one vote per registered Club. This vote must be
held by an individual who is a member in good standing of BC Wheelchair Sports Association.
4. Dissolution, Article X
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The following section under Article X of the Bylaws,
Article X Dissolution
10.1 Dissolution – The Society may be dissolved in accordance with the Act.
Be amended to the following:

10.1 Dissolution – The Society may be dissolved in accordance with the BC Societies Act and in compliance with the Income Tax Act.
5. Call for Nominations, Article IV
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The following section under Article IV of the Bylaws,
4.1 Call for Nominations – At least thirty (30) days prior to the Annual General
Meeting, the Society will issue a ‘Call for Nominations’ using any means of
communication. The ‘Call of Nominations’ will state the method which the
nominations are to be made, the requirements for the position, and the
deadline for submission which will be no later than twenty-one (21) days prior
to the Annual General Meeting.
Be amended to the following: At least thirty (30) days prior to the Annual General

Nominations
There are three (3) positions on the BCWSA Board of Directors up for election at the 2018 BCWSA AGM. To date, there are three nominees, two who are current members of the Board of Directors, and an additional nominee as follows:
Dean Mackinnon
Dean has been on the board of directors for BCWSA for over 20 years. He has been active in BCWSA as an official for wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby for over 35 years. Dean is seen as a builder and leader within the organization. He has served at the Director of Finance on the BCWSA Board, overseeing the financial operations of the organization.
Teri Thorson
Teri has been on the board for 4 years. Teri is Paralympian from the sport of Wheelchair Athletics and a current athlete in wheelchair rugby. She is a former member of the Board of the WC Race Series and works with Spinal Cord Injury BC. Teri brings both an athlete and program leadership perspective to the organization
Judy Joseph Black
Judy works for the BC Games Society as an Event Manager assisting host community volunteers in the planning, operation and planning of the BC Winter Games. She has extensive knowledge of parasport, having worked as part of the Communications Team on the 2010 World Wheelchair Rugby Championships and on Mission Staff for 5 Paralympic Games with the Canadian Paralympic Team. She worked with the Provincial Government as a sport consultant ,
managed the National Women’s Soccer Team and was the Executive Director of Badminton BC.

At the bottom of this page you will find a proxy form which, as a voting member of this Association, gives you the opportunity to have a vote by designating a member in good standing to vote on your behalf. This proxy vote is to be
