• Richmond to Host Paralympic Wheelchair Rugby Qualifier

(Vancouver, BC) BC Wheelchair Sports (BCWSA) is excited to announce that the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation has selected Richmond, British Columbia to host the 2020 IWRF Paralympic Qualification Tournament, March 2-9 at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The tournament is the final opportunity for teams to qualify for the wheelchair rugby competition at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The top two finishers will join Australia, the United States, Japan, Great Britain, Denmark and New Zealand in Tokyo.

Host Canada will be joined by five teams selected from the 2019 IWRF Zone Championship and two countries from the IWRF World Ranking List. Invitations have been sent to Brazil, Colombia, France, Germany, Korea, Sweden, and Thailand. 

BC Wheelchair Sports has a long history of hosting international wheelchair rugby events at the Richmond Olympic Oval, including the 2010 IWRF World Wheelchair Rugby Championships and hosts the biennial Canada Cup International Wheelchair Rugby Tournament.
