BC Wheelchair Sports is pleased to announce that Byron Green and Kendra Todd have been named as co-coaches of the BC Provincial Wheelchair Rugby Program.
Byron and Kendra are NCCP Competition Development certified coaches who bring years of experience within and beyond the BC Provincial Wheelchair Rugby Program to their new roles. They both served as assistant coaches under former head coach Trevor Hirschfield, who has moved on to an exciting new opportunity leading the Canadian National Team.
Byron Green has been involved in Wheelchair Rugby for over twenty years. He started out as a club athlete in Vancouver and has worked his way through the full pathway, playing for the BC Development and BC Provincial Teams. A three-time Paralympian, he has been an athlete on the Canadian National Team since 2013. As a coach, Byron has been active at the club level since 2017 first with the Vancouver Whalers and now with Victoria Wheelchair Sports. Since 2019, he has filled a dual role as a player/coach within the provincial team program and will continue to do so as co-coach.
Kendra has played a pivotal role in developing wheelchair rugby athletes in BC since 2018. She started out in Wheelchair Rugby as a club coach with the Okanagan Rattlers, bringing her vast experience in coaching and team-building from soccer and hockey to the para-sport world. She has helped multiple athletes from the Okanagan and Interior improve their skills and break into higher levels of Wheelchair Rugby. Kendra has been an assistant coach with Team BC since 2019 and coached the Canadian Women’s Team at the Women’s Cup in Paris in 2023.
Byron and Kendra will lead Team BC at the upcoming 2025 Canadian National Wheelchair Rugby Championships in Montreal as co-coaches.
“I’m really excited to be working with Kendra to continue to develop and improve our provincial team. We’ve got a lot of emerging talent coming up and it’s an exciting time for the program. It’s really cool to get to go full-circle within Team BC and have the chance to share my knowledge and experience with the athletes both on the court and from the sidelines.”
– Byron Green
“It’s a real honour to be a part of the BC Wheelchair Program and help continue to foster a strong team culture that builds on a tradition of excellence. We have a really great group of athletes, and I’m looking forward to helping them continue to grow and make strides towards their individual and team goals.”
