What We Do
We’re responsible for three unique and exciting wheelchair sports – Wheelchair Athletics, Wheelchair Rugby and, Wheelchair Tennis.
Wheelchair Athletics includes both Wheelchair Racing and Seated Throws. Track and Field events are a great fit for athletes with a range of physical abilities and our programs welcome participants of all skill levels – from beginners to elite athletes.
A full-contact and exciting team sport that combines elements of basketball, handball, hockey and rugby to create a unique sport for people with impairment in three or more limbs. There are 6 rugby clubs spread across the province in Vancouver/Richmond, Kelowna, Kamloops, Victoria, Prince George, and Duncan.
Wheelchair tennis follows nearly identical rules to able-bodied tennis with the exception that the ball is allowed to bounce twice before it is hit. It is a mentally and physically challenging individual sport and a lot of fun! BCWSA offers tennis programs for participants of all ages and skill levels in communities around BC.
Fun and inclusive introductory sessions where new participants can come out and try sports with supportive BCWSA peers and coaches.
Development Level Programming
Weekly sport-specific and multi-sport programming for athletes of varying skill and experience levels led by BCWSA coaches.
Bridging the Gap
The Bridging the Gap Program helps get people with disabilities active and engaged in sport. The BTG Program helps introduce participants to sport and to remove barriers to participation.
Indigenous Bridging the Gap
The Indigenous Bridging the Gap Program aims to remove barriers to participation in sport for Indigenous individuals with disabilities across BC.
BCWSA supports high-performance athletes and teams across our sports who represent BC and/or Canada in national and international competitions.
