BC Wheelchair Sports is saddened by the news of the recent passing of Paul Johnson.

Paul was one of BC and Canada’s greatest wheelchair tennis athletes. A three-time Paralympian, Paul represented Canada with pride at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Paralympic Games and was a force to be reckoned with on the domestic and international wheelchair tennis circuit.

The Victoria native won nine National Singles titles including eight consecutive championships from 1991-1998 in addition to nine straight National Doubles titles from 1993-2001,

A Top 20 player for many years Paul was well known for his sportsmanship on court, and positive and joyful nature off of the court. He will be greatly missed in the wheelchair tennis community and the Canadian tennis community.

A private funeral was held last week, and there are plans for a celebration of life at a later date.

Our thoughts are with Paul’s family and friends in this difficult time.
