ICYMI: Limb Loss Awareness Month

April was Limb Loss Awareness Month and we launched a new interview series to shine a light on amputees and athletes with limb differences who are active and thriving in Wheelchair Sports.
The six-part series interviewed athletes from across Canada who are involved in our four core sports (Wheelchair Tennis, Wheelchair Rugby, Wheelchair Racing, Seated Throws) and Wheelchair Basketball.
All of the episodes are available below and on our Facebook and YouTube Pages.
Episode 1 – Wheelchair Tennis With Barry Henderson
Team BC and Tennis Canada High Performance Team member Barry Henderson joined us in episode 1 to discuss his tennis career, the importance of goals and his experience finding Wheelchair Sports later in life.
Episode 2 – Wheelchair Rugby with Zak Madell
Paralympic medalist and Wheelchair Rugby star Zak Madell joins us to talk Wheelchair Rugby, transitioning skills from one sport to another, the camaraderie among amputees in rugby and his ideal All-Star Team.
Episode 3 – Bridging the Gap with Se-Youn Moon
Se-Youn Moon joined us on Episode 3 to discuss getting involved in Wheelchair Sports in rehab, the Bridging the Gap program and how he’s staying active in Wheelchair Racing and Tennis during the pandemic thanks to BCWSA.
Episode 4 – Wheelchair Basketball with Deion Green
Paralympian and Team Canada Wheelchair Basketball player Deion Green joins us for Episode 4 to talk about growing up in BC’s junior programs, the training and dedication required to make the jump to the Senior level of competition, and gaining confidence from BCWBS’ superstars of the 2000s.
Episode 5 – Seated Throws with Dakoda Darling
Team BC Seated Thrower and National Discus record holder Dakoda Darling joins us on Episode 5 to discuss the joy of Seated Throws, competing against your own limits and what it’s like to be a part of Team BC at a Track and Field meet.
Episode 6- Wheelchair Racing With Alex Dupont
Our final episode features Paralympic Wheelchair Racer Alex Dupont who discusses some of the advantages and challenges for amputees in wheelchair racing, managing a schedule as an athlete, business owner and Dad, plus recaps some of his favorite moments from his racing career.
