Paralympic Medalists Trevor Hirschfield and Ian Chan To Share BC Wheelchair Rugby Head Coaching Position

B.C. Wheelchair Sports Association announced today that Paralympians Trevor Hirschfield and Ian Chan have been named as the head coaches of the B.C. wheelchair rugby program. They will be responsible for recruiting, mentoring, and developing up-and-coming athletes.
“I am excited to be part of a program that has been so influential in my rugby career,” said Hirschfield. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to help pass on my rugby knowledge to the next generation of athletes.”
Chan also saw the position as a way to contribute to a program that has given him so much.
“I’m forever grateful for the years I spent as part of the Team BC program early in my career because they taught me a few things about hard work, dedication and discipline,” he said. “Now that Trevor and I are coaching Team BC, I look forward to fulfilling a leadership role and to carrying on a tradition of excellence that Team BC is known for.”
The two athletes will bring an incredible depth of knowledge to the position. Chan has won three Paralympic medals and four World Championships medals, and has been on the national team for nearly two decades. He was the subject of the OMNI documentary “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop.” Hirschfield is widely considered to be the best athlete in the world in his class. He has won two Paralympic medals and two World Championship medals.
Chan and Hirschfield will begin their new position effective immediately.
