massive-dev | November 3, 2021
The BC Provincial Wheelchair Tennis Team is headed to Montreal to compete in the 2021 Birmingham National Wheelchair Tennis Championships from November 4-7.
BCWSA is sending one of the biggest teams that we’ve ever sent to Nationals with 8 athletes set to represent BC this year. Anmore’s Thomas Venos will look to defend his Men’s Singles title from all challengers including teammate and doubles partner Barry Henderson (Mission).
Kirsten Sharp will look to once again be a contender in the Women’s Division. She’s been a staple in the Top 4 in recent years and should be a factor in what looks to be a very balanced and competive division.
Mitch McIntyre (Vancouver) will be BC’s lone representative in the Quad Division up against his World Team Cup teammates from Ontario – Gary Luker and Paralympian Rob Shaw.
Three athletes will be making their Team BC debut at this year’s Nationals. Dual-sport athlete Se-Youn Moon (Vancouver), Patrick Levis (Colwood) and youngster Jon Chen (Ladner) are all set to gain valuable experince in Montreal.
Rounding out Team BC is Mark Hansen-Buratta (Delta), who’s back after a couple years away from competitive tennis.
Three all-BC pairs are in Doubles.Venos and Henderson are hungry to defend their title, Mitch McIntyre will be sharing his vast experience with young John Chen, while the all-rookie pair of Levis and Moon will be hoping to spring a few surprises on established duos.
