BC Wheelchair Sports would like to congratulate wheelchair tennis athlete Tomas Bourassa and coach Steve Manley on being named finalists for Sport BC’s annual awards in the Athlete with a Disability and Male Coach of the Year categories, respectively.
Tomas was the first junior wheelchair tennis player in BCWSA’s history and has been a member of the BC Provincial Team since 2014. He’s coming off a career season in which he improved his ranking, won several titles and helped lead Team Canada to a record-tying 4th place finish at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup in Sardina, Italy.
Steve has been BC’s Provincial Wheelchair Tennis Coach since 2007, coaching athletes of all levels with unbridled enthusiasm. In 2017, his work with our junior athletes was recognized as he was selected to coach the Canadian team at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup. Canada earned a wild-card berth based on the performances and ranking of their team members – 2 of 3 of which were BC athletes that Steve personally coaches and helped develop along with national team coaching staff. In Italy, he coached the team to an impressive fourth-place finish, securing automatic qualification in next year’s cup.
The winners of Sport BC’s Annual Awards will be announced on March 28th at the Westin Bayshore.
