            BCWSA Launches Wheelchair Racing Apprentice Coach Program

BC Wheelchair Sports is pleased to launch the 2026 Wheelchair Racing Apprentice Coach Program. Interested applicants are asked to complete an expression of interest form by November 21 : https://form.typeform.com/to/fkihXKeh. This is a competitive application process; not all applicants will be selected. Successful applicants will be notified by December 5. *Note – this is a Lower Mainland based opportunity. However, interested regional applicants are still encouraged to apply and will be followed up with regarding professional development opportunities outside of this program. 
Apprentice Coach Benefits
Successful applicants will receive the following support from BC Wheelchair Sports:
- Complimentary one year coach membership to BCWSA
- On-going mentorship from BCWSA mentor wheelchair racing coach James Hustvedt throughout the season
- BCWSA Swag
- Funding support to complete sport-specific training & NCCP training, as agreed upon between the successful applicant and BCWSA program coordinator
- Small honorarium at the end of the season
Apprentice Coach Responsibilities
Successful applicants will be expected to complete the following responsibilities during the season:
- Complete a vulnerable sector criminal record check and safe sport e-module training course prior to attending first practice
- Support mentor coach and BCWSA athletes at weekly programming and at competitions (where appropriate) for the 2026 season
- Complete a post-program survey
- Abide by BCWSA’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policy
