BC Wheelchair Sports is seeking a Wheelchair Racing Coach to help lead our Provincial Wheelchair Racing Program and training group. The successful candidate will support BCWSA wheelchair racers at competitions and in training sessions and work with the Program Coordinator to foster a culture of inclusion and personal excellence.
Position
Wheelchair Racing Coach (Part-Time Contract)
Compensation: $10,000-15,000 per year commensurate with experience based on part-time hours

Term: September 2024-April 2026 (with the possibility of renewal)
Key Responsibilities
Provincial Program Planning – Together with the Program Coordinator, develop and deliver an overall plan for the BC Provincial Wheelchair Racing Program.
-Support the recruitment and development of all levels of athletes (grassroots to provincial HP) in an inclusive training environment
-Support the learning and development of regional and club coaches delivering wheelchair racing throughout the province
-Together with the Program Coordinator and Provincial Seated Throws Coach plan and deliver Wheelchair Athletics Clinics and recruitment initiatives
-Ensure availability and maintenance of wheelchair racing equipment to support athlete needs
Targeted Athlete Development – Manage the identification, development and evaluation of targeted athletes.
-Develop and implement Provincial Team and Targeted Athlete Selection Criteria
-Develop, implement and monitor Yearly and Individualized Training Plans
-Coordinate and maintain communication with performance enhancement services
-Work with Program Coordinator to set, record, and report on key performance indicators for all targeted athletes
-Coordinate with and support athlete transition to Athletics Canada to ensure a seamless athlete development pathway
Competition – Develop an annual competitive schedule for the Provincial Team and development athletes.
-Prepare athletes for competition and ensure peak performance at National Championships and other designated provincial team events
-Support the integration and participation of athletes in local competitive opportunities including the WC Race Series, Provincial Championships and other designated events.
Qualifications & Experience
-Minimum certification of NCCP Club Coach or have a plan in place to achieve this within an agreed timeframe
-Plan to complete Athletics Canada Club Coach certification in wheelchair racing, as offered, within an agreed upon timeframe
-Experience with yearly training plans, athlete periodization and performance planning
-Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
-Strong time management and organizational skills
-Able to work independently and as part of a team
-Experience working with athletes with a disability an asset
-Experience in working with sport science and medicine practitioners an asset
Working Conditions & Hours
-Hybrid work environment but must reside in the Lower Mainland and be willing to commute to the BCWSA office (780 SW Marine Drive) and nearby program locations on a weekly basis
-The successful candidate should also be prepared to work evenings and weekends as required to deliver weekly programming and clinics and attend competitions
-Some travel required

Contract employees of BC Wheelchair Sports Association must be aware that they will be acting as an ambassador for the association within the Province and on the National stage. It is important to exhibit professional conduct at all times while representing BCWSA. Coaches are required to sign a code of conduct and acceptance of the position is contingent on results of a criminal record check.
