BCWSA’s Winter Wheelchair Athletics Clinic on February 20th/21st is fast approaching! Though this clinic is geared towards provincial team level sessions, newcomers are welcome to the roller/handcycle/training portions of the event. Please note that if you are attending one day of the clinic, registration will be $15 and if you attend both days it will only be $20. Cash, cheque, or credit card can be processed. Please see below for a detailed schedule of the weekend.
February 20th: At the BCWSA Office (780 SW Marine Drive, Vancouver BC)
10:00am – 11:30am: 2016 Anti-Doping Education Session
This session will include a review of the Canadian Sport Institute Speaker Series session: Owning Your Victory – Anti-doping Education for All
Note: Watching this webinar and completing the 2016 Anti-Doping Education Worksheet handed out during this session will be a mandatory requirement for the 2016-17 BCWSA Wheelchair Athletics Provincial Team Selection. Breakfast snacks will be provided.
11:30am – 12:30pm: WC Race Series AGM (lunch provided)
During the lunch break the WC Race Series will conduct their Annual General Meeting. Registration forms, a brief rundown on the upcoming season, and review of applying for subsidies will be discussed. BCWSA will also hand out the 2016-17 BCWSA Wheelchair Athletics Provincial Team Selection Criteria.
12:30pm – 3:00pm: Handcycle and Roller Session (perfect for newcomers!)
Cardio session will be provided with handcycles and racing chairs. Depending on numbers and available rollers, two sessions may be ran. We will also have several of our newly trained classifiers at this clinic to practice their training so participants who are waiting for a roller and/or have a break may be asked to go through the classification process.
February 21st: At the Richmond Olympic Oval (6111 River Road, Richmond BC)
9:30am – 11:30am; 12:30 – 3:00pm: Ongoing training sessions for wheelchair racing and seated throws. (Perfect for newcomers!)
Classification practice will continue with athletes on their breaks between training sessions.
11:30am – 12:30am: Lunch Break (provided by BCWSA)
9:30am start (TBC) – Individual Nutrition Sessions with Joanna Irvine (Canadian Sport Institute – Sport Dietician)
Provincial Team athletes interested in having a one-on-one nutrition session with Joanna (Dietician from the November clinic) can be scheduled for an appointment. BCWSA can provide financial support to help cover a portion of the cost for this session. Please confirm with Lisa if you are interested in having a session by February 15th.
11:00am start (TBC) – Functional Movement Screening with Cody Low
The second round of FMS testing with Cody will be conducted with potential provincial team athletes. From this session a video library will be created through taping your testing to show progression. A video library on how to properly execute the various stretches and exercises identified by Cody will also be created.
